Industrial Noise
Course Description:
This course addresses occupational noise--its nature, hazards, evaluation, and control. This is a Blended Learning Course. Students must complete a web-based training portion of course prior to attending the resident portion. The web-based portion may require up to 6 hours of seat time. Topics include physics of sound, effects of noise, occupational noise standards, noise instrumentation and measurement, frequency analysis, noise control techniques, hearing conservation, audiology, and current OSHA noise compliance policy and inspection procedures. Course highlights include laboratory exercises/workshops on instrument calibration and use, frequency analysis, impulse/impact noise measurement, and noise dosimetry. Some topics in this course involve the use of basic algebra and logarithms. For further information, please contact the Director, Office of Safety and Health Training.
